Policy does not change by itself. We push.
LUMA advocates for anti-discrimination policies at Nigerian universities and for youth voices in national HIV prevention frameworks.
Pushing individual universities to adopt formal anti-discrimination policies for HIV positive students and to train campus health staff on status neutral care.
Feeding university-specific data and youth voices into Nigeria's 2026 to 2030 National HIV Prevention Plan through submissions, partnerships, and evidence briefs.
Using platforms including AIDS 2026, One Young World, and the Y+ LEAP Academy to amplify Nigerian campus HIV realities on the world stage.
We Advocate With Data
Our evidence base
LUMA's advocacy is grounded in two ongoing research studies. Our research has found a critical knowledge-attitude paradox: 96.85% of university students demonstrate high HIV knowledge, yet only 55.5% hold positive attitudes toward people living with HIV. Knowledge alone is not enough. Policy change is required.
The Status Neutral Campus Initiative
A push for Nigerian universities to adopt status neutral HIV service frameworks in their campus health centres, beginning with Kwara State University as a pilot institution.
